Formed in Milan in 1910 under the name Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, the renowned Italian car maker has left an indelible mark on the history of automobiles. Changing name to Alfa Romeo in 1915, since then it is synonymous with technological development and elegance. The distinguishing feature of the Alfa trademark is the "Rosso Alfa" colour, famous since the 1920s.
May 29th took place the first of two classic auto rallies scheduled, when more than 120 classic cars paraded across the most important cities of Cantone Ticino.
The most important moments of the history of Alfa Romeo have been recalled, and legendary models like the rare 1900 Pininfarina Cabriolet (1953), the "queen of the racetrack" Giulietta SZ (1960) and the most dated car of the event, a technologically outstanding 6C 1500 Sport built back in 1928 have been shown all across the region.
The scheduled path included some of the most beautiful places of Cantone Ticino and the four cities where the local offices of Banca del Sempione are located: left Chiasso, the cars paraded across Lugano (where they have been exposed during the lunch break) and Bellinzona, to finally reach a crowded Locarno. The final celebration took place inside the ancient palace of Società Elettrica Sopracenerina.
